Ted Nugent

Born on December 13, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan

Ted Nugent formed his very first band, THE ROYAL HIGHBOYS, when he was 12 years old. The year after, he formed THE LOURDES and won a contest that allowed the band to open the Detroit show of The Supremes and The Beau Brummels. In 1964, the band separated.

In 1965, Ted moved to Chicago where he formed the band THE AMBOY DUKES. In 1967, the band recorded its first album but success came a year later with the release of Journey To The Center Of The Mind. The group then spent the next 10 years on the road opening for various major bands throughout America.

Ted went back to Michigan in 1975 and saw the opportunity to make it on his own. From that time up to 1989, Ted released more than 15 albums and became a dominant figure in the rock world. Some of his songs, Cat Scratch Fever, Hey Baby and Motor City Madhouse just to name a few, will be forever remembered as rock classics.

Despite his rocker looks, Ted always stayed away from drugs and alcohol and is also involved in the promotion of a drug-free way of life. He is also the national spokesperson for D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Program).

Ted has another great passion: bow hunting. In 1989, he created a magazine on the subject called World Bowhunting. This publication has 10,000 subscribers. Ted always takes time to hunt, in fact he rarely buys meat at the grocery store. He prefers eating what he hunts.

Besides a 25 year career, Ted also has a great family life with his wife Shemane, his two daughters Starr and Sasha and his two sons Toby and Rocco.

Ted Nugent is an example to follow. He proved that it was possible to have a career in the rock’n’roll business, a family and a healthy life without drugs and alcohol. Like he says, it is possible to create great music without being under the influence of drugs and even risking to die from it.

Ted is currently working on a solo project while waiting for Damn Yankees to get back together.
